A Somewhat Snarky, But Fully Adoring Book Review of 'Midnight Sun' by Stephanie Meyer

I had no intention of reading this book. I honestly have spent the last seven years of my life trying to forget the series entirely. It's not that I don't adore the series with every fiber of my being, because when I heard that Stephanie Meyer released Midnight Sun, my inner nineteen year old started shrieking and didn't stop shrieking until I devoured the novel completely. She has since been humbled and found a sense of closure and yet still yearning for more of Edward Cullen's insights. The book is Stephanie Meyer's re-imagining of Twilight from the beautiful, sparkling Edward Cullen's point of view. His perspective is a troubled and conflicted one. He is instantly attracted to the new girl Bella Swan with her blood that smells to him like a blood-lust relapse. He immediately lets on that he will be killing Bella and probably the entire Biology class for witnessing his shame and despair. This isn't what happens, of course. He has been trained by his baby faced doctor daddy, Carlisle, to integrate with humans and live off of the blood of animals instead. Good guy that Carlisle! Hoorah and many high fives to you, good sir! PETA would disagree, but I digress. Back to our home boy, shiny disco ball of sexual allure that he is, Edward. This book gives you the depths of Edwards mind, his every thought be it murderous, depressed, self-loathing or absolute adoration for his new found snack-mate. That's like a soulmate that could also be attractive, but also be nourishing cause Ed's got that appetite for the O-positive short drink of water that is Bella Swan. Seriously though, he is consistently going from crazed killer thoughts to rationalizing with himself. I couldn't help picturing Edward as Dobby from the Harry Potter series hitting himself with a lamp and exclaiming, 'Bad Dobby! Bad Dobby!' One hundred and eight years he has had to learn to fight his thirst for human blood, but clearly, that wasn't enough time. But this thirst is a fire. It burns. And burns are not easily treated. It will continue to burn until it doesn't anymore. And that is the analogy I felt most appropriate for this novel, it burned. A very slow burn, but the heat was there from the very start. Edward has the ability to read minds and it seems that he is able to read everyone's mind except Bella's. This gives the reader a rare ability to momentarily get to know the other characters on a deeper level. I found this very amusing and a vastly captivating as it kept me rushing to turn each page. If you are, or were previously a Twilight fan, I greatly advocate for the reading of this novel. It's a chance to dwell in nostalgia and get to know on a deeper level the characters in Stephanie Meyer's Forks, Washington. Thank you to Stephanie Meyer for giving her fans this in-depth and beautifully written gem among the Twilight series.

Now that you undoubtedly have a burning desire to read it, you can buy it here or even here !
